Congratulations to the Matchplay Finals Winners!
On Saturday 30th September we held our Matchplay Finals Day which is the climax of the matchplay tournaments we hold throughout the summer months. The finalists were as follows:
Scratch Final (36 Holes): James Bisby vs Alan Key
Men’s Final: Kevin Card vs Gary Spears
Ladies’ Final: Sarah Leonard vs Chris Wicks
Seniors’ Final: Mike Bonning vs Ron Wicks
Greensomes Final: Dave Hatfield & Ben Hatfield vs Tom Ward & Alex Hewitson
There was also a Seniors Team Matchplay which was unable to be played on the Finals day between Graham Wilkinson / Malcolm Emson and Mike Bonning / Ron Wicks.
The weather was lovely for the Finals Day and players were treated to very little wind, with sunny spells.
In the Scratch Final (which is 36 holes, all the other finals are over 18) Bisby took a nice lead of 4 Up after the first round against me, after having shot 68 first round. He then turned on the afterburners and beat me 10&9 after another three birdies on the front 9. At one point I was stood on the 7th tee having played 24 holes - I was 3 over par and 7 down!! That’s some golf from Mr Bisby and the win was well deserved!
All of the other matches were very close and went down to the wire in what was a fantastic day of golf for the club.
The Men’s Champion was Kevin Card, who won on the last hole against Gary Spears, Mike Bonning claimed the Seniors title with a 1 Up win against Ron Wicks, Sarah Leonard snuck the Ladies victory on the 17th green and Junior Captain Tom Ward together with his partner Alex Hewitson won their match on the final green too!
