Course looking good going into the Winter season
One week after scarification and four weeks after hollow coring, our greens are looking very healthy going into the winter season.
It’s been quite a stressful year for greenkeepers in the UK as the summer drought has been not like any other seen in a very long time. With such little natural water available it has been rather labour intensive keeping the greens as good as possible.
Fortunately for us at Burstwick, since the introduction of our Quadrop irrigation treatment and our more frequent renovation schedule our greens have come through the tough times nicely and are heading into the colder months feeling strong.
Continued light aeration and sanding through the summer season, combined with a wetting agent programme and various biostimulants being applied to the greens, has meant that our greens can sustain this drought stress for longer and be less susceptible to disease and fungus coming out of the other side.
Mark and the team has worked very hard to keep this up during a very demanding summer and the greens have remained consistent throughout, with good speed and firmness.
The greenkeeping team have also been doing some extra work on bunkers with around 30 bunkers topped up with sand, and some of the lakes have had their banks tidied up nicely ready for Winter.
