A letter from the 2025 Club Captain
Hello Members of Burstwick!
I’m Lee Sargeson, and I’m honoured to be your new Captain at Burstwick Country Golf for 2025. First, I want to take a moment to thank Martin Gill for his leadership last year. It was a tough one for him personally, but he handled it with grace and taught me a lot along the way. Martin, we all owe you a big thank you.
For those who don’t know me, I’ve been a member here for over seven years, and for those who do, well, you’ve probably had no choice!! It’s a privilege to be asked by the Key Family to take on this role and I’m excited to give it my best shot.
The club has been making great strides recently, including investing in new equipment for our greenkeepers, headed by Mark, who do a brilliant job of keeping the course in top condition. I’m looking forward to working with them this year to ensure the course is always at its best - especially for my Charity Am-Am on July 19th, and the new “Captain’s Carnage” event, keep an eye out for this one!
Burstwick is truly moving in the right direction and becoming one of the area’s premier golf destinations. With the fantastic support of Alan, Laura, the bar headed by the irrepressible Becks and catering teams headed by the gorgeous Tracey, and everyone else behind the scenes.
Can I also say a quick word on the club’s fantastic professional golfers who run a great academy for golfers of all ages and abilities, please give your support to them they are the very best in the business for fitting, teaching and having that bit of advice to improve your games, they are going to be a great help for me this year in all I'm trying to achieve, do please keep supporting them in everything they do to improve this club and your games.
Well done Matt and Luke and thanks for all your support and help this year.
I know 2025 is going to be a year to remember. Thank you all in advance for everything you’ll do to help.
I’m also lucky to have Steve Beaumont by my side as “Miami Vice” this year. Steve, I’m looking forward to a fun and memorable partnership. I know we’ll have a great time at Captain’s Invitations and beyond - good luck for the next two years!
This year, my chosen charity is the Alzheimers Society, which is very close to my heart as a family member is currently affected by this cruel condition.
I’m planning a special day for the Charity Am-Am on 19th July, complete with a halfway house and a prize table worth over £1,700, and I hope as many of you as possible will get involved.
I will be holding a big raffle with lots of prizes, so please everyone give generously, also a weekly bus stop with prize money for the winner, maybe some prize give aways instead, who knows not me just yet!
I’m always happy to chat, shake hands, and hear your thoughts about the club - good, bad, or otherwise. I’ll do my best to represent you and bring your ideas to the table.
Lastly, I’d like to thank Martin Gill again for his dedication and leadership. Let’s all make the most of 2025, enjoy our golf, and continue to grow this amazing club. I look forward to meeting more of you, catching up with familiar faces, and playing as much golf as I can with you all.
Here’s to a fantastic year!
All the best,
Lee Sargeson
