No-Show Rules for Weekend Competition Times
Last month we published a survey to those players who play frequently in the competition time slots on Saturdays and Sundays at the club, to find their opinions and views on how the clubs should handle “No-Shows” and what exactly is classed as a “No-Show” for a competition.
We are very grateful to the 100+ members who completed the survey and we believe this has given us a great indication on how to move forward to please the majority of our members. Like anything in this world, we can never please everyone but a concensus is the best way to go to please the majority.
We have discussed the survey results extensively at the Club Committee and we will adopt the following rules which will be implemented from 1st February 2024.
Booking Rules for Competition Times
Members can book up to 15 days in advance and tee times go live at 4pm (i.e. 4pm Saturday for the Saturday in 2 weeks’ time)
If they are unable to play, members must remove their booking up to 9pm of the night before the tee time
Members who remove their name later than 9pm the night before or do not show for their time will be treated on a two strike basis:
Strike 1: An email from the committee asking them politely to not do this again, stressing that this rule is now in place and that a second strike will result in a temporary punishment
Strike 2: A one week suspension from booking within competition times, including their name being removed from any existing bookings within those times
Each strike will last 6 months and then disappear from a player’s record
Anyone found to be playing in the competition times but doesn’t enter the competition will be classed as a No-Show and treated accordingly
These rules will be monitored and reviewed again in 6 months, if we find that there is still a big problem we may choose to adjust the relevant action.
This may seem harsh to some people that we are going down this route, but most other clubs employ a similar or harsher method for maintaining fairness across the board. Special circumstances which can be proven (i.e. car breaking down, injury, etc) may be taken into consideration by the committee if someone appeals a suspension, but these will be treated fairly and counter questions will be asked, such as “could you have known this sooner?”, and if the answer is yes then unfortunately the appeal will be rejected. Bad weather will not be considered a good enough reason unless the competition is called off by the club.
We are sorry that is has had to come to this as we are a very liberal club who has always tried to be as accommodating as possible but unfortunately these problems are now causing the club’s reputation harm so we are in a position where we must impose some basic rules to make it fair for everyone.
Thank you for your understanding.
