Course taking shape going into the busy season

Our greenkeepers have spent a lot of time on the greens lately getting them into shape for the summer season, and it’s just starting to pay off. We would say they were about 2-3 weeks behind where they should have been up to last week, but the team have been working hard on getting them looking and performing much better over the last 10 days. As a quick insight last Monday two of our lads spent a full day on them, double verticutting, double cutting and ironing, and then the same again on Wednesday (single verticut and single cut to keep in front of the ladies competition), then an iron on Friday. This week we have an intense plan again and today we verticut, micro tined and topdressed with a thin layer of sand to smooth out any imperfections, then later this week we will be verticutting again, followed by a double iron on Friday. All the while we are mowing them every day too.

On top of this we have been catching up on the everlasting grass factory that we have experienced since the warm(ish) and wet April, and after two bank holidays which resulted in us losing 40 man hours each time (5 men x 8 hours), we’ve almost caught back up and got the place looking as it should, and we’re continually trying to improve the course for 2023.

Thank you everyone for staying patient with us and we hope you continue to enjoy your golf at Burstwick!
