Lockdown 2 - How this affects our members

Here we are again finding ourselves in another lockdown with no restaurants open to have nice food, no bars to enjoy a drink with friends and no golf to play. Rubbish!

If you have been a member for longer than seven months at the club you will know that with the last lockdown we offered our members three options as to any golf they were missing due to the lockdown:

  • Option A - Have a cash discount on their next renewal

  • Option B - Have a credit added to their golf club account (to spend at the club)

  • Option C - Not take any discount and the club would donate £25 to the NHS Together Charity for every member who did this.

NB: These were the options for the first lockdown, we will be doing something slightly different for the November lockdown.

Since the reopening of the golf course in May the club has managed to dust itself off and continue making progress and the revenue of extra members and visitors has helped pay for some new machinery, a second car park extension, an extra part-time greenkeeper, and the construction of the second golf studio.

We want to continue this progress for the betterment of the club.

But we also understand we have members out there who feel they should be reimbursed for not being able to play golf. That’s why we have again decided to offer our members some form of compensation to our members in lieu of what they have missed to lockdown #2.

As we don’t know exactly when we will be reopening the golf course, we can’t say definitely what this will be, but rest assured we will be looking after each and every one of our members. We all need to help each other in these tough times!

While this is all a little bit doom and gloom, we thought we would now look back on some of the progress we have made in 2020, and what we (hopefully) plan to do in the coming couple of years:

  • Minor Clubhouse Refurb

  • Car park extension 1 & 2

  • Purchase of Handyman Greenkeepers buggy

  • Purchase of Tru-turf Turf Iron

  • DOUBLE discount on food for members

  • Purchase of Sweep & Fill rotary greens brush

  • Purchase of Toro 6700D Fairway mower

  • Purchase of John Deere Gator utility vehicle

  • Soil analysis lab tests on greens

  • Construction of second indoor golf studio

Here’s what we’d like to do in 2021/22 providing that the pandemic doesn’t cause too much financial unrest:

  • Purchase “Quad Drop” water treatment system to neutralise our irrigation water and release important nutrients in the greens which are currently locked in

  • Installation of new double doors at the driving range and clubhouse entrances

  • Purchase a tractor mounted scarifier

  • Purchase a second compact tractor

  • Purchase a Charterhouse top dressing machine (pictured right)

  • Purchase a towed spiker / slitter for greens

  • Overseed the greens with a dimple seeder (hired or purchased)

  • Hollow core and top dress tees

  • Build walls at entrance to car park

  • Upgrade our members system to Club V1 with our very own app where you can input scores and results, top up your members account, and much more

  • More budget allocated to greenkeeping labour

Medium to Long Term plan

We have bigger and better plans for the medium / long term future of the club but we can’t say too much about these right now, but rest assured we want this to be one of the leading golf clubs in the East Riding, both with the course and the facilities themselves. This takes time and much investment is needed but we have high aspirations so watch this space!
