Preparations for Re-Opening the Golf Course - Last Updated 10pm Monday 11th May
We have now been advised by the Yorkshire Union that golfers can play either:
Alone
OR
With members of their own household
OR
With ONE person from another household
For any avoidance of doubt only two people should be in any group (two-ball) where two households are represented.
Hi everyone,
We had a circular 80% ready to send out to members last week about our preparations for opening of the course as soon as we were given the green light England Golf and the Government, however Laura went into labour on Monday evening (a week early) which meant I wasn’t able to finish the document in time. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl Violet Elizabeth, which the family is absolutely delighted about!
Some of this circular has obviously now changed as we know a little more from the Government, so the club's stance is as follows.
As we have entered some lovely weather in the UK we have had members absolutely clambering to get out on the golf course, and we have wanted nothing more than to let them! Last night Boris Johnson announced that golf courses will be allowed to open on Wednesday 13th May which is fantastic news for us all, but there are some specifics that golfers MUST be aware of:

With this in mind it is the club’s stance that we shall be allowing only two-balls play on the course until 3pm every day, and from 3pm onwards three or four balls (must be from one household) may play. This is designed to keep the game free flowing and prevent groups bunching up due to different speeds of play.
1 and 2 balls are still allowed to play after 3pm.
Please click the following button if you would like to book a household-only 3 or 4 ball.
The Re-Opening Plan
Health & Safety
Health and safety is of upmost importance and we take it very seriously. It is highly likely that we will be told to impliment by England Golf and the R&A to ensure that we do our bit to keep everyone safe:
-
Closure of the practice putting green
-
No rakes in bunkers, but still in play (people will be asked to smooth over marks with their club where possible)
-
No touching of flagsticks, the ball will sit just at the surface of the hole when putted out, for easy retrieval
-
No touching of benches, ball washers or bins - ball washers will be taped down and benches upturned
-
No club competitions for the short term, social only. This will be reviewed in the coming weeks as there are many things to consider such as not exchanging cards, prepayment, bunkers not being raked by players etc.
-
Locker rooms will be pinned open so you do not need to touch doors, hand sanitiser and soap will be provided
Condition of the Course
Whilst we have been doing our best to maintain the golf course throughout the closure we ask member to take note that we have had no choice buy to furlough most of our staff, which has meant that we have gone from 4.5 greenkeepers to 2, so the course may not be quite up to the normal standard as soon as we open, but we know that we can get it back to it’s usual quality in hopefully not too longer space of time. That’s not to say the course is looking bad, but with less than half the staff we have been having to manage our time carefully in order to maintain the 114 acres that we sit on.
Coaching at the Matt Daley Golf Academy
Golf coaching will restart at the academy from Wednesday but there will be some very strict safeguarding rules. These will include:
BOOK ONLINEhttps://embed.acuityscheduling.com/embed/button/17742282.js
-
Matt and Luke wearing facemasks during their 1 to 1 coaching sessions
-
Cordened off areas and perimeter lines within the studio
-
No group coaching of any kind for the short term
-
Social distancing being strictly observed
-
Equipment will be sanitised after each session
-
Hand sanitiser will be available at all times
-
Online payment or bank transfer only
Driving Range
We hope to open the Driving Range shortly after the golf course is open and once Alan has returned from paternity leave, but in doing so we may only be taking payment by contactless debit/credit cards, members’s cards, or range loyalty cards. NO cash will be accepted to to begin with.
When the range does eventually open, it will operate on restricted hours initially, and we will update this once we know more about the new Stay Alert system implemented by the Government.
Trolley & Buggy Hire
There will be no trolley or buggy hire until Alan is back from paternity leave, but after this point we hope to hire buggies out for single/family use only, along with trolley hire being allowed.
Halfway House
We will be leaving Sanitiser in the halfway house toilets but we would ask if possible use these only in emergency (we also realise most of the time this isn’t a conscious decision nor an option!). Please be careful when handling door handles after having sanatised, close with your foot where applicable. The front of the halfway house will be off limits.
The Clubhouse, Shop, Bar and Restaurant
All areas of the clubhouse will be closed and off limits for until Government Direction tells us otherwise.
Thank You for Staying Patient
Thank you to everyone for their patience and support in this difficult time with the phased reopening of the golf club. It will be great to see people back on the golf course again come Wednesday!
Take care everyone.
