Coronavirus Update Thursday 19th March 2020

We released our first Coronavirus Update on Tuesday which can be read here.

At this point we would like to give a small update as this is a very fluid situation, things are changing rapidly so keep an eye out on our website for further updates.

This morning we received extra guidance from England Golf with regards to recommendations on actions that Golf Clubs should be taking to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

  • Hand Sanitiser - we had ordered many bottles from our wholesale suppliers but like every other outlet they are struggling to fulfil their orders, therefore we are working hard to try and source sanitiser elsewhere for the club. In the meantime please wash your hands in the toilets with our hand soap at any possible opportunity to prevent the spread of the virus.

If anyone has any sanitiser that they could either donate or sell to the club (price gouging not included as this is not supported in any way by us) please let us know ASAP as we would be very grateful.

  • Competitions suspended until further notice - This week’s competitions have been cancelled, and all future competitions will be cancelled until otherwise stated, however we are still continuing to use the booking system as if there were competitions in place, and will still be advertising future competitions (for example the MD Golf Academy Open Am-Am on 25th April and the Pro-Am on 22nd May) in the optimistic hope that things will change soon and events can go ahead.

Further Prevention Measures

  • Rakes removed from Bunkers - We have removed all rakes from bunkers and place them in the rough away from the hole to help stop the transmission of the virus. Since golf will only be played on a casual basis for the time being we recommend you use preferred lies in bunkers due to their limited raking.

  • Hole Cups Raised - From tomorrow we will be taking measures to stop the ball being holed out by raising the cups above the surface of the greens, again to prevent transmission of the virus. As golf is now only being played on a casual basis we recommend taking gimmes, or having the ball hit the cup and bounce back.

  • Driving Range - Once we have acquired some hand sanitiser we will be placing some near the Driving Range baskets so that players can sanitise their hands after using the range. Until we have some available we are strongly recommending that players go to the toilets and wash their hands thoroughly for 20 seconds before and after any range session to kill any unwanted bacteria or virii.
