Congratulations to Joe Harrison and Jamie Maston on winning the Burstwick Sixes!
On Saturday we hosted the inaugural Burstwick Sixes Tournament, which is a 6 hole matchplay tournament played over the course of one day. Sixteen pairs entered into the event which consisted of them being drawn into four groups, and the winner of each group progressing to the afternoon's semi finals.
Pairs in each group played 6 hole matches against each other (18 holes total for three matches), before a lunch break and the winners of each group drawn against another for the semi final. Winners of each group match got 2 points, halves earned 1 point each, and losses 0. The groups that had joint top pairs were decided by their win margin totals (i.e. 4&2 would beat 3&2, etc).
The semi finalists went out in the afternoon with Darren Wilkinson & Neil Turner taking on Lee Brooks & Darren Smith, and Joe Harrison & Jamie Maston versus Dave Smith & Martin Hewitson. In match one Lee & Darren beat Darren & Neil on the first play off hole after halving through 6, and in the other game Joe & Jamie beat Dave & Martin in regulation play.
Onto the the final and Joe & Jamie played fantastic golf on holes 13-18, with Joe holing a number of key clutch putts which ended up with them sealing victory on 18, a great performance against two very good opponents who played some great golf. In the third place playoff, Dave & Martin beat Darren & Neil to pick up a podium place.
As it was the first year we've run the event we took some good feedback and will make some small changed for 2019 to make things run a little smoother, but on the whole the feedback for the event was fantastic and we may expand it to more than 16 pairs next year!
