Maxey & Hunt Pushing Forward in County Matches
After becoming the Burstwick Country Golf 2017 Club Champion last week, Jack Maxey has continued his great form over the last 10 days with some very notable performances.
On Wednesday Jack competed in the Yorkshire Union Under 16s Boys’ Championship at Shipley, and finished a very impressive fourth place, just four shots off the lead after 36 holes. The next day he played in the East Riding Union Boys’ Championship at Hainsworth Park, and after a slightly rocky second round managed to beat the talented Tom Duck in a play-off after 36 holes to win the championship.
Not finished with this fantastic form, Jack earned his first call up to the East Riding Men’s scratch team to play against league leaders Sheffield Union, and Jack was the second highest point scorer for the Union!
Finally, Jack won both his matches in the East Riding Union Junior Matchplay tournament, meaning that he will be in the semi-final on August 27 at Hull Golf Club.
Lewis Hunt, another gifted Junior at the club also had a good week with a third place finish in the ERU Boys' Championship, just two shots off Jack and Tom's finishing score, and Lewis also won both of his ERU Junior Matchplay matches meaning that him and Jack are representing Burstwick as 50% of the semi final field!
Needless to say we are extremely proud of these young men who have been at Burstwick since very young ages, and we will be supporting them all the way!
