Burstwick Enjoys Most Successful Pro-Am to Date!
Nearly 100 people visited Burstwick on Friday 27th May to take part in our Annual Pro-Am sponsored by Santander, and it was a fantastic day with some great scoring!
The weather gods blessed us with hardly any wind at all and warm conditions which got better as the day wore on, the sun visited from 3pm onwards and into the evening which made for a very pleasant round for the later teams.
On the day we had tee sponsors on most holes and a half-way house sponsor which all contributed to a fantastic prize fund of £2800 for the professionals and £2000 worth in amateur prizes, making the Burstwick Pro-Am one of the best value events in the area.
Teams on the day came from all over Yorkshire and the course was looking the best it has ever been for the event. With scoreable conditions the day looked perfect for some low shooting from the professionals, and Alex Belt's course record of six under could have been seriously under threat.
The Yorkshire PGA greeted players as they registered for the competition, handing out pin placement cards and giving everyone information about how the course was playing, and free refreshments were on the tee ready for the players going on their journey. The half-way house which was sponsored by Premier Stores give players a chance to refuel on various savoury and sweet snacks, preparing for attack on the easier back nine.
When the scores started rolling in it was clearly visible that the added length on the course and inclusion of trees into play have made the course more difficult in the two years since the last Pro-Am, as the winning professional score was the highest it as ever been at 1-under par.
