Joe Coyle earns full card for 2016 Europro Tour
Frilford Heath, Oxfordshire, was the venue for the final stage of Europro Tour qualifying last week, where 240 professional golfers were looking to obtain their Europro Tour card for the season.
Qualification for the Europro Tour is based on how high you finish at the final, with the top 30 and ties gaining a 'full' card, and the further down you place the fewer events you are eligible to enter for. For those who aren't aware, a full card means that you are able to enter all of the season's events.
Joe did very well the previous week at the first stage of qualifying (at Mottram Hall) and took this with him to Frilford as a springboard for confidence. On the first day this showed, when he shot two under par, lying in tied fifth - a fantastic position to be in.
On day two conditions were a little more difficult and the nerves of making the cut (top 80 or so players) were starting to show.
Joe was five over gross after six holes, after making a triple bogey on the par 5 sixth. This could have spelled disaster for Joe's qualification chances but he valiantly regained focus and fought back, making a birdie and 11 pars to shoot a total of +4 for the day, tied for 36th and making the cut comfortably.
On the third and final day Joe felt that he could play a bit more aggressive having made the cut already, and went out to shoot a fantastic 3 under par round for a 54 hole total of -1! This placed tied for 19th, earning him a full card for the season, exempt for all the Europro events; needless to say Joe was absolutely delighted with this.
Earning a full card for the tour is a fantastic achievement for Joe and his team, and we cannot wait to see what the season brings.
Well done Joe!
